What's the best thing to do with kids the day after Halloween? Take them on a learning walk in the woods and wetlands! Best anecdote to gonzo sugar consumption ever. Ms. Leckie, Ms. Dickens & I had the great pleasure of taking all the 2nd graders to the Mercer Slough Environmental Center last Friday. We walked in the beautiful woods and wetlands areas, took soil samples and conducted tests on them. We went on a scavenger hunt, and played a game that simulated decomposition. We spent time in the lab and learned all about Soil Adventurers–F.B.I. (fungi, bacteria and invertebrates). We found millipedes, centipedes, worms, potato and sow bugs, slugs and other fascinating creatures in the soil and saw them magnified on "bug t.v.".
I want to thank all of the parents that chaperoned: Angie, Carolyn, Preach, Lisa, Meredith, Cari and Karen. Thanks also to Niki for loaning her van and to Carol for loaning her spare booster seat.
We had a farewell acknowledgment circle for this friend on Tuesday (the voice narrating the video below–not the specimen). We'll miss him!
