The last hour of the day on Fridays we post this sign on our door and immerse ourselves in passion projects. Genius Hour is based on Google, HP and 3M's practice of allowing employees to spend a percentage of their time working on a pet project.
Here is the basic framework of Genius Hour in our classroom:
1. What do you want to know?
What do you want to be able to do?
What are your key words? What do you need to find out?
What to do, when to do it, how to do it.
4. Record the process
Take photos, video, blog.
5. Evaluate as you go
Check your progress. Make any adjustments that need to be made; make sure you're on track.
6. Share your learning/presentation
What format? digital, performance, oral presentation... What product? object, writing...
What worked? What was challenging? What would you change? What skills did you develop? Was it fun? Can you make it better? Can you share it further?
